The French salon of the 17th & 18th centuries, we are told by Wikipedia, was a gathering of stimulating people under the roof of an inspiring hostess. Their aim was to amuse one another and to refine their taste and increase their knowledge through conversation and readings, often consciously following the poet Horace's definition of the aims of poetry - 'to please and educate'.

What better way to describe the aims of a Whisky Wine & Words tasting event!
A present day setting in which fine Italian wines and Scotch whiskies of character can be enjoyed and more fully understood, where conversation will stem not only from an appreciation of the liquid in your glass, but from a line of verse, a snatch of traditional song, a folktale or legend, the evocation of a moment in history.

Our events are designed to suit any audience and can be conducted in English or Italian - or both!

Date:

Saturday 24 April 2010

Title: The Spice of Life!
Location: Viale Cesare Pavese, Rome

Description:          Whisky & Indian Food - new menu!

If you missed the promotional event on March 20th or if you were there and can't wait for another opportunity to taste the amazing combination of single malt Scotch whisky and  a variety of tasty dishes from the Indian sub-continent, then here's your chance!
The format and the venue will be the same as those of the March 20th event but the whiskies, presented by Rachel, a native Scot, and the dishes, prepared by Allen, from north east India, will be different. You won't get a 4 course dinner as such, but you certainly won't go away hungry! Or thirsty!

You can read all about our last event here and see the pictures here:

Scots love Indian food - 'going for a curry' is something of a Scottish national pastime - and Indians love Scotch whisky - in fact they now have their very own Scotch style whisky distillery which goes by the name of Amrut. Amruta, a Sanskrit word that literally means 'without death', is often referred to in texts as nectar or ambrosia. It is the 'water of life' in Hindu mythology and repeatedly referred to as the drink of the gods, which grants them immortality.
The modern term whisky, derives from the anglicized pronunciation of the Scottish or Irish Gaelic 'uisge beatha' and also means 'water of life'.
So there you have it! We can't grant you immortality but we can promise you a flavoursome and entertaining evening!

The event will take place at Allen's home,
Haque/ Rahman, Viale Cesare Pavese 304, Scala B, Int. 14, (top floor) 00144 Rome, on Saturday April 24 2010 from 18:30 - 21:30 hrs. Participants will taste four selected Scottish single malt whiskies of varying ages and from different regions, paired with substantial, satisfying and sophisticated 'chaat' - food traditionally served from road-side stalls or carts in India.
In the tradition of WhiskyWine&Words the malts and the food will be accompanied by entertaining and informative historical and cultural - chat!

The cost of this event will be €45. (€35 for CCR members). We ask you to put the sum in cash in a sealed envelope with your name and email address printed clearly on the front and place it in the ice-bucket you will find when you come in. At the end of the evening we will draw one envelope from the bucket and there will be a prize for the lucky guest.
Please reserve your place no later than Wednesday April 21.

This event will be conducted in English and hosted for a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 28 participants.
You will receive confirmation of the event no later than Thursday April 22.
Should the event be oversubscribed your name will be at the top of the list for one of our next events - a RICE FESTIVAL or an INDIAN BARBEQUE.
If you book and then find that you are unable to attend, please let us know so that someone else can benefit.

We look forward to seeing you! Book now to avoid disappointment!
